Commercials Wasting my Life blog #4

Commercials today are getting are getting out of hand.  Instead of a company talking about their product, a lot of time is used to doing something crazy to get the viewer's attention and to criticize competing companies.  Take the super bowl commercials for example.  These commercials focus less on the product being sold and more on being funny, wild, or just amusing.  The goal of these commercials are to be memorable for when their product is viewed, but at what cost?  When I see Old Spice body wash on sale, I do not want to think about some black guy on steroids getting his brain blown up.  I want to see the product and think of all the positives about it.  Until commercials get back to being about the products and not trying to amuse or shock the viewer, I think they are a complete waste of time.

  1. But the commercials are effective in that they make you think about them, and later on when you see the products in the store, in the back of your head you think "oh yeah, Old Spice makes your head explode." Maybe that is enough of a push to get you to smell the body wash, and you decide to try it. The psychologists producers hire know what will work to bring us in, even though it may not be apparent to us.
