Risk vs Reward blog 3

After writing the micro-essay on Friedman, I began to think about the risk and reward of a business.  I am used to a society that places human life over everything else.  Movies play this up tremendously, with superheroes risking their lives to save others.

When looking at the business side of things, this dilemma can become a very slippery slope when associated to pollution and other accidents.  Pollution is going to happen, and can impact the health of the area where the pollution is being dumped.  This pollution can harm and even kill people.  Sometimes in order for the business to make money, they have to risk the lives of the public.  The company has to find a balance for this though because if they pollute too much, the government may step in or lawsuits could be brought against them.

This can be said the same about accidents in the workplace or on the roads.  Too many accidents could lead to a bad reputation and loss of money for the company. Spending too much money to cut down on accidents could cause the company to lose money.  Between accidents, pollution, and money-making, there is no happy medium between a company and the public.
