Work
In class we watched a silent film made by Charlie Chaplin called "Modern Times" where he was showing the world of the Great Depression but in a somewhat funny way. He showed us how one day you have work and the next you're going job to job and there is nothing steady for you. People are having trouble living and the best place to be is in jail because you know you have a place to sleep and eat. When he was freed from jail he tried to go back because there was nothing for him to do out in the world because there were so many problems. When he did try to get work nothing really worked for him and so he would get fired and someone would have to take his place. In today's world it is so easy to be replaced by someone. We see this everyday with people having jobs and then the next they have nothing because they are expendable to the corporation they work for. How is this right to let people go when they have worked for so long somewhere? Many people in this world lost their jobs and that was their families livelihood and so they have to find lower paying jobs that don't really come with the same benefits they once had. It's not right but what can we do about this?
